Safe Dancing with Kashmir - for all dance styles
While I’m talking about safe turnout, it’s worth mentioning a great site I found recently. It’s aimed at belly dancers, but its advice is relevant to all dancers - especially those starting out later in life.
The site is written by Kashmir, a Kiwi belly dancer. She has a fitness qualification as well as substantial belly dance experience, so she knows what she’s talking about.
Her main message is - stretching is not a warm up. Stretching is not a warm up. Stretching is not a warm up.
That may surprise some people and in fact, it would have surprised me too - except that I started reading this message in articles by physiotherapists and exercise experts a couple of years ago. Kashmir’s article is well worth reading - and her bio is worth a giggle, too!
